About AUM

Land you can live on, work, and pass down.

AUM is a planning and operating partner for families and land: keeping land in families, and bringing new families onto land.

1 · A transfer is under way

Land is changing hands, and many families have no plan for it.

Across the South, land is passing from an older generation to a younger one that mostly lives in cities. Too often it is sold off, split among heirs or lost, not because the family wanted that, but because no one had a plan.

At the same time, many families who have never held land want a way out of the city. AUM works for both: we help families keep and plan their land, and we bring new families onto land.

2 · Why now

A small home with working land is a practical choice again.

Remote work, the move away from crowded cities, and the rising cost of food and energy make a small home on productive land, with good shared spaces around it, a sensible way to live.

3 · Technology as the buttress

Technology does the coordination a large farm would own.

A half-acre household or a family estate can't afford the planners, buyers and back office a big operation has. AUM shares them: AUMi to guide and teach, maps and plans for every site, a document room for each landowner, tools for orders and records, and a network that reaches partner farms and grocers.

4 · New ways to build family wealth

Wealth you build with your own hands, and pass on.

A home on land. The means to produce: a market garden, a flock, a workshop or a kitchen. A place in a network of partners and buyers. A plan to hand it all to the next generation.

That is what we mean by the transfer of economy and of wealth. It is our mission, not a promise of financial returns: what each household builds comes from its own work.

The land

Two places with deep roots.

Farmland on the Cane River held by one family for about 150 years, and land in Converse held for generations by the families who started this community. Read the land's story

A resilient future

Food, energy, skills and each other.

  • Food

Every lot can grow or raise food, and the commons share what they produce.

  • Energy and water

Solar arrays and rainwater cisterns are part of every layout.

  • Skills

Builders, growers and makers learn from each other and from AUM's crew.

  • Community

Shared spaces, a produce hub and neighbours who chose the same life.
